Whistleblower’s anger that crook was not stopped 10 years ago
BIRMINGHAM care home manger who tried to scam a frail resident out of £175,000 was previously investigated over claims she spiked a colleague's drink with prescription medication.
A whistleblower who reported Jamiel Slaney-Summers, from Northfield, said there were missed chances to stop her before she produced a fake will naming her and the home's former owners as Rita Barnsley’s main beneficiaries.
‘The document, riddled with different handwriting and coloured pens, emerged the day after the 85-year-old died in 2021 but was spotted when a worried relative raised the alarm, as reported previously in the Post.
Slaney-Summers, 65, who used to run Amberley Care Home in Brierley Hill, and ex-owners Graham Walker, 74, and his wife Lyn, 71, were all convicted following a fraud trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court likened to an “Agatha Christie novel’:
But now it has now emerged serious concerns were raised about Slaney-Summers in an alert a decade previously.
Alexandra Cooper-Kite was a senior care assistant at another Midland care home and won an employment tribunal in 2015 over the actions of Slaney-Summers.
‘The 49-year-old said she was bullied by ‘her then-manager who “destroyed her life” after she spoke out about failings at the home.
