A WOMAN who was magnet fishing in a Birmingham canal was stunned to pull out a treasure trove of 60-year-old love letters.

Shirley Elmore was scouring the Grand Union Canal with her son when she found a bundle of letters dating from 1962.

Although only a quarter of the 32 letters were still legible, Shirley unpacked a series of messages from a Nottingham man, identified as Arch, to a woman.

The letters sent between February and March 1962 were addressed to a Janet Millington in Glen View Road, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
