WITH SUPPORT FROM ADOPT BIRMINGHAM, YOU COULD BE A LIFELINE FOR SIBLINGS IN NEED OF A SAFE AND LOVING PLACE TO CALL HOME
-
For children awaiting adoption, being able to share the journey with their siblings is a priceless gift.
This sentiment lies at the heart of Adopt Birmingham, a regional adoption agency operating on behalf of Birmingham Children's Trust, striving to help those living within 50 miles of the city to fulfil their dream of becoming parents through adoption.
The agency warmly welcomes all prospective adopters for children of all ages and needs, but is keen to explore the possibility of sibling adoption for those longing to start a family.
Siblings in care have often been the only constant in each other's lives. They are the only people in the whole world who can ever truly understand their childhood years spent together, as well as the memories made and the relationships built and sadly, in some cases, shared trauma - which is why it's so important for them to be adopted together.
Brothers and sisters share a tie unlike any other, and Adopt Birmingham has a steadfast belief that preserving this fundamental bond is critical for the emotional wellbeing of children, as well as developing a sense of safety and stability, and maintaining their sense of identity and belonging.
Finding one family for sibling groups means that important sibling relationships are protected, and children often settle more quickly into their new homes when placed with their siblings.
There are currently more than 2,000 children waiting to be adopted in England. Of those, 890 are part of a family group, and 520 children who are part of a sibling group have been waiting for 18 months or more to find a loving home, according to research from You Can Adopt.
Of those parents who have already welcomed sibling groups into their lives, 61% said that adopting children alongside their brothers and sisters has been the most beneficial factor in their children's adoption journey.
