CAITLIN WHO WAS LEFT FOR DEAD BY SPEEDING DRIVER MEETS INVESTIGATORS

- JASBIR AUTHI News Reporter

Teen's forensics career dream after road horror

A TEENAGER who was knocked down by a speeding driver and left for dead at the roadside is dreaming of a career in forensics with the police.

Caitlin Hodgetts was just 13 when she was hit by a car doing twice the speed limit as she walked home with friends in Erdington in May 2023.

The driver fled, leaving the schoolgirl with life-changing injuries.

Caitlin, now 16, was so badly hurt that she had to relearn how to walk and talk and lost the sight in one eye.

Mervyn Boreland, 49, of Icknield Street, Birmingham, later handed himself in and admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was jailed for three years in May this year.

Caitlin, who is focused on rebuilding her life, has since nurtured an interest in joining the police force.
