Rise of home working 'putting pubs in peril'

LANDLORD SEES MASSIVE DROP IN LUNCH-TIME AND COMMUTER TRADE
AN award-winning Birmingham pub is at risk of closure with the owner saying “things need to change fast”.
Since opening in 2011, The Post Office Vaults, on New Street and Pinfold Street, has finished third in Birmingham CAMRA’s Pub of the Year and scooped the Rising Star Award in 2013.
But owner Mike Perkins says the rise in working from home has made for city centre pubs “unsustainable” and that trade has dropped 40% since the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said: “Covid's damaged around 40% of our trade; it’s working from home which is the issue.
