Police called over flags group's 'intimidation'

TWO groups on opposing sides were separated by police as tensions simmered over England flags.

Police were called to the ‘Stirchley Triangle’, opposite The British Oak pub, on Saturday to keep apart residents and members of Raise the Colours.

Some locals, who were hanging up “love not hate” artwork with their families, said they felt “intimidated” by the group, which is responsible for hanging England and Union flags from lampposts around the West Midlands.

Raise the Colours, which has returned to Stirchley several times with cherry pickers to replace flags that had been ripped down, said its volunteers were there to “just start a conversation.”
