Our good shepherd is there to protect us in His loving, peaceful and caring way

SMALL children are often seen clutching their favourite soft toy, their comforter which goes everywhere with them. Often this could be a ‘baa-baa’ or a soft cuddly sheep.

Sweet lambs seen in our fields may create the same desire in us to cuddle or protect them. The Bible tells us that Jesus proclaimed “I am the good shepherd.”

Words to explain His unique, divine identity as the Son of God. Words to highlight his purpose in coming from heaven to earth to offer us protection and love when we need help.

The analogy that Jesus is a shepherd and that we are his sheep, the flock he cares for, might seem strange. Sheep are very vulnerable animals, easily hurt, lost and frightened.
