No relief as bin strikes reach their 10th week

BIRMINGHAM City Council and the bins union Unite remain at loggerheads as the all-out strike blighting the city enters its 10th week.
Negotiations are said to be ongoing amid claims truck drivers are being drafted in from neighbouring authorities to plug gaps as more staff allegedly 'walk out', with drivers leading a new exodus.
On Monday, the council said last week's disruption had eased and all three depots - Atlas in Tyeseley, Perry Barr and Lifford Lane in Kings Norton - were operating normally with support from neighbouring authorities, including Coventry, itself embroiled in a dispute with Unite.
A 'mega picket' attracted around 300 people during a morning of action last Friday and the council shut down Lifford Lane to avoid any confrontations.
Arbitration service Acas is involved in on-going negotiations.
