Mosque team keeps it clean as bins emptied

A TEAM of volunteers has been praised for helping to clear 120 tonnes of waste from city streets as the bins strike continues.

They came out on force to prevent fly-tipping when Birmingham City Council deployed a mobile waste crew which collected rubbish from 1,400 cars, and around 2,000 residents.

In previous weeks, chaos has ensued when the mobile waste crews have visited other parts of the city, with piles of rubbish dumped at the roadside by impatient residents.

Police have had to be called and last Thursday a JCB was deployed to shift a mountain of fly-tipped rubbish from the grounds of Tyseley Community Centre which was blocking entrance to a play park.
