M5 hero officers are nominated for award

PAIR BROUGHT WRONG-WAY DRIVER TO A HALT BY RAMMING HIS VEHICLE
TWO police officers who brought a car driving at 80mph in the wrong direction on the M5 to a halt have been nominated for National Police Bravery Awards 2025.
The motorist, who was suffering a mental health crisis, caused mass panic from other motorway users and was only stopped when his vehicle was rammed by West Mercia police officers PS Kully Singh and PC Stacey Hegenbarth.
The incident unfolded on July 30 last year when the force received a flurry of frantic reports of a car travelling at high speed on the wrong side of the M5.
Within minutes, PS Singh and PC Hegenbarth were deployed to bring four lanes of the southbound carriageway to a halt.
The other units headed to intercept the driver. The first unit came across the vehicle but it was travelling too quickly to stop.
