TRIO WENT MISSING BEFORE SENTENCING FOR MASS CITY CENTRE BRAWL
A BIRMINGHAM couple and their adult son are still on the run a year after they were branded “utter cowards” over a mass brawl described as some of the worst violence seen in Birmingham city centre.
Judge Dean Kershaw imposed jail terms on mum-of-12 Ellen Sweeney, her partner Thomas Sweeney senior and their son Thomas junior last September after a wild fight in the Gay Village was caught on CCTV.
But the trio, formerly of Kitts Green Road, Stechford, had already fled having skipped bail, which was granted after they claimed they were attending Thomas junior’s wedding. A warrant was issued for their arrest but Birmingham Crown Court heard that they had not been found. The same judge demanded to know what had been done find them.
