MAN HAD LITTLE REGARD FOR YOUNG PATIENTS' SAFETY, COURT HEARS
A MAN who pretended to be a doctor and carried out unsafe and illegal circumcisions in Birmingham has been jailed for nine years.
Mohammed Alazawi, 54, has been convicted of 40 offences, including multiple counts of fraud, wounding with intent, administering and supplying prescription-only medicines, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He has now been sentenced after pleading guilty to 20 offences, and being found guilty of a further 20 offences following a trial.
Alazawi carried out the unsafe procedures between October 2016 and January 2022.
The circumcisions were performed on babies as well as older boys and some suffered complications, including infections.
It was after one such incident in Birmingham that police were alerted.
