JAY Stansfield sought specialist help to cope with the barrage of insults from the terraces over his price tag.

Blues re-signed Stansfield for a fee in excess of £12 million last summer to make him their record signing and obliterate the League One transfer record in the process.

Stansfield instantly became a target for fans of rival clubs and multiple managers referenced the transfer deal before playing Blues.

Chants of 'what a waste of money' were heard whenever Stansfield missed a chance or failed to score.

And the striker, who claimed the Top Goalscorer and Young Player of the Year awards at Blues' end-of-season bash on Sunday, admits the constant abuse affected him.
