Another first-year Giant, Jameis Winston, entered in the second half and went 7-of-11 for 62 yards anda score in a game that featured four lead changes after the intermission.
Jude McAtamney drilled a 42-yard field goal with 7:13 minutes left in the fourth quarter to give New York the lead for good. Later in the period, the Giants recovered a fumble deep in Buffalo territory and capitalised with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Tommy DeVito to Jonathan Ward to give the visitors a nine-point lead with 2:11 minutes to play.
Buffalo's Mitchell Trubisky, making the start while reigning MVP Josh Allen rested, completed 9 of 13 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. Mike White then came onto throw for 112 yards and two scores on 8-for-13 passing.
