Thananchai edges Garde to claim WBC Asia flyweight title

World-ranked professional boxer Thananchai Charunphak defeated Filipino veteran journeyman Amold Garde for the vacant WBC Asia flyweight title at the Suanlum Night Bazaar Theatre on the monthly Nakornluang Promotions card on Friday.

For Thananchai, 25, this marked his third win since dropping a split decision to Seigo Yuri Akui when he challenged the Japanese champion for the WBA flyweight title in Tokyo at the end of 2024.
Garde, 35, is no stranger to tough opposition. With a record of 13 wins, 15 losses, and six draws, the man known as “The Destroyer” has faced world champions, contenders, and rising prospects throughout his career. Coming off a win over Japan's Yuga Inoue, the Filipino arrived in Bangkok determined to test the younger fighter.
