Phuket looks to resort model to tackle waste

Phuket authorities plan to adopt the wastewater and waste management model used by Katathani Phuket Beach Resort to address the island's worsening environmental problems, including more than 1.2 million tonnes of accumulated waste.Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn said Phuket faces a serious solid waste challenge, with more than 1,200 tonnes of rubbish generated daily. The Phuket City Municipality landfill holds over 1.2 million tonnes of waste awaiting disposal, he said.
