No dam approval at Unesco site, DNP says

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has confirmed that no dam construction has been approved within or adjacent to the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, a Unesco World Heritage Site.
DNP chief Attapon Charoenchansa said any proposed reservoirs remain in the early stages of environmental assessment and have not been greenlit for development.
The clarification follows recommendations from the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Paris this week, which urged Thailand to suspend all dam projects near the site until a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is completed and reviewed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
