Korn: Steer clear of buying shares

Former finance minister Korn Chatikavanij has called on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to caution investors about trading shares in seven listed companies allegedly linked to scam and money-laundering networks, saying buyers risk being deemed accomplices in illicit processes.

In a Facebook post, Mr Korn said it is widely known in the equity market that, ahead of the upcoming election, groups connected to money-laundering syndicates are attempting to accelerate share sales.

The shares in question have not yet been frozen because they are allegedly held through nominee accounts, making enforcement more difficult, he said.

“Thave repeatedly said in order for foreign criminals to launder money through Thailand's economic system, they must receive cooperation from Thai nationals,’ wrote Mr Korn, now a member of the Democrat Party. “The SEC must take firm action against everyone involved”
