February 02, 2026

Gold recorded its steepest daily fall since 1983 on Friday amid heavy profit-taking after prices surged to a record on Thursday, and in response to US President Donald Trump's announcement of his choice for Federal Reserve chairman.

The afternoon fixing on Friday in London was $4,981.85 an ounce, compared with $4,926.45 a week earlier. Thai selling prices were quoted at 74,200 baht per baht-weight (15.2 grammes), up 1,100 baht from the previous week.

Trade in Thailand was highly volatile, with prices peaking early Thursday afternoon at 81,950 baht. They sank more than 6,000 baht on Friday, with 75 price changes recorded, and kept falling into Saturday.
