Fab Three’s test of power
Bangkok Post
|February 21, 2026
With the dust settling after the general election, Thailand’s political landscape has been decisively reshaped by the Bhumjaithai Party's (BJT) overwhelming victory.
-
Securing 193 seats across the constituency and party-list systems, BJT has emerged not only as the largest party in parliament but as the central pillar of the new governing coalition. The scale of its triumph has reset public expectations — and sharpened scrutiny — over how it will perform in what has been branded “BJT Phase 2”
At the heart of those expectations is a trio of heavyweight ministers widely dubbed the “Fab Three”: Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun, Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas and Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow. Each brings a distinct professional pedigree — corporate leadership, fiscal policy expertise and diplomatic experience — helping recast BJT from a traditionally mid-sized party into amodern, technocratic political force. For many voters, the Fab Three symbolised competence, stability and results-driven governance — qualities that resonated amid economic uncertainty and geopolitical volatility.
Yet as BJT prepares to govern with a commanding mandate, observers caution that its greatest test may lie not in winning power but in managing it. Concerns are mounting that entrenched interests — within BJT and among coalition partners — could constrain the Fab Three's ability to execute policy. If such tensions materialise, they could undermine not only ministerial performance but also the narrative that propelled BJT to its historic victory.
