Defence ministry to assist in Chiang Rai rescue ops: PM

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has instructed the Ministry of Defence to assist with rescue operations in Chiang Rai, where flash floods struck two districts following heavy overnight rainfall from Thursday until yesterday.

Torrential downpours triggered flash flooding in the hilly areas of Phaya Mengrai and Wiang Chai districts, prompting the urgent evacuation of residents. Local authorities swiftly mobilised to help affected villagers relocate to higher ground and secure their belongings.

In a social media post yesterday morning, the premier said she had directed the Ministry of Defence to coordinate closely with provincial governors to deploy personnel and equipment for immediate relief efforts.
