Capital 'ready' for torrential rain this week

Bangkok Post

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt has reassured residents that the capital is prepared to cope with heavy rainfall this week, following public concern over rising water levels in upstream provinces.

- POST REPORTERS

Mr Chadchart, accompanied by deputy governor Wisanu Subsompon and senior Drainage Department officials, yesterday inspected key flood-control points in Pathum Thani province and Nong Chok district of Bangkok.

The team visited the Phra Thammaracha sluice gate, the Khlong 13 sluice gate, the Bueng Farang sluice gate, and the Nong Chok pumping station. Representatives from the Royal Irrigation Department's Rangsit project also joined the inspection.

The governor said water levels at Khlong 13 remain manageable, with current discharge at around 47 cubic metres per second (m³/s), well below its 80m³/s capacity. He stressed that Bangkok is coordinating with irrigation officials to divert northern runoff away from residential areas, with water pumping directed towards Nakhon Nayok.
