Board games at SSF
Bangkok Post
|January 23, 2026
An ongoing public hearing by the Social Security Fund (SSF) board suggests a change of the rules governing how employees' representatives are elected may be on the cards, switching from one vote for seven candidates to one vote per candidate.
-
This is stoking concerns about the future of how the board will operate.
The method suggested during the monthlong hearing that is due to wrap up online on Feb 14 is seen as a ploy to undermine candidates' teams and unity, following the surprise success of the Progressive Social Security Group in winning all seven seats in the 2023 board election.
The SSF board has 20 members. Six are appointed by ministries, seven by employers and seven by subscribers. Their two-year terms are due to end next month.
The board is tasked with deciding how to invest the 2.6-trillion-baht fund, with the benefits to be distributed among its 24 million subscribers.
The members were appointed in 2023 when an election was held for the first time.
