Amro projects growth to reach 2.2%

Thailand’s economy is projected to expand by 2.2% this year before slowing to 1.9% next year, according to a study by the Asean+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (Amro).

A source from the Finance Ministry who requested anonymity said yesterday a delegation from Amro, led by director Yasuto Watanabe and chief economist Dong He, met with executives of the Fiscal Policy Office on Aug 29 to present the findings of Amro’s 2025 Annual Consultation Report on the Thai economy, which is conducted every year.

Amro reported during the first half of 2025, Thailand’s economy grew faster than expected, but growth momentum is likely to ease in the second half following a front-loading of exports ahead of the implementation of US import tariff measures earlier this year.

Thailand’s economy is undergoing a significant transition to support future growth, including shifting government spending strategies towards investment, and expanding investment in advanced technologies in sectors such as electric vehicles, electronics and data centres.

Headline inflation is projected to remain low, at 0.5% in 2025 and 0.8% in 2026, mainly due to supply-side factors.
