Troon shorefront restaurant gets council approval

Parking concerns raised at meeting

A new restaurant at North Shore in Troon has been given the go-ahead, despite concerns about the knock-on effect on car parking.

The restaurant has been largely welcomed, but at a meeting of South Ayrshire Council's Regulatory Panel on Thursday, June 5, councillors quizzed officers on a range of issues including the parking provision and impact on traffic in the area.

Labour Councillor Ian Cavana asked why officers felt it was appropriate to allow public car parking for 28 vehicles, along with the loss of some green space.

He was told that the number was tied to the size of the restaurant itself and that planners had viewed the loss of green space as being acceptable given the amount of green space around the site.

Labour group leader Duncan Townson was most concerned about the impact on what he described as a junction at Beach Road that "is difficult to get out of already.

He pointed out that Barassie Primary School was very close, along with a number of shops.

He said: "I know we've got a pedestrian crossing just beside it, and that's probably the only traffic calming measure there is there.

"Even at that it's difficult to actually get out of that junction.
