Popular golf course set to host contest as tribute
Accrington Observer
|May 30, 2025
ONE of Lancashire's most popular golf courses is set to host a national qualifying competition in memory of a well known player who took his own life.

Golf was Trevor Foster's “whole world” and so, when a shoulder injury scuppered his chances of once more being selected for the England senior team, he feared it would put an end to his playing career.
Trevor, from Accrington, was well-known in the golfing world, having hit the headlines in 1988 when he qualified for the British Open at the age of 28, having shot a course record of six-under at Blackpool North Shore.
At the Open, held at Royal Lytham & St Annes, Trevor reached the dizzying heights of the top of the leaderboard, ahead of the likes of Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Fred Couples.
