Enfield progression in Worsley Cup K/O

IT was a disappointing weekend for Bacup Cricket Club, exiting the Worsley Cup at the second round stage on Saturday and losing in the league on Sunday.

- NEAL WILKINSON

On Saturday Bacup travelled to Dill Hall Lane to take on an Enfield side who were relegated last season but currently sit top of Division Two.

The game produced the remarkable occurrence of four brothers playing together in the same team.

Dominic, Niall and Brady Boardman had all appeared previously on a number of occasions, but joining them on his debut was youngest brother Patrick.

Four Turner brothers played together for East Lancs a number of years ago. It is thought that this could be the only other such occurrence.

Enfield won the toss and elected to bat first, after rain had reduced the cup tie to 46 overs.

On a wicket providing little assistance to the bowlers Enfield were soon piling on the runs and at one stage looked to be heading for a score in excess of 300 after a first wicket partnership of 144 between Lewis Wright, who carried his bat for a very impressive 134 not out, and Alfie Cook (67).

However, a fine effort in the latter stages of the innings by the fielding team restricted Enfield to a total of 261 for 3.

Jack Bradford was the pick of the Bacup bowlers conceding only 33 from his allotted 9 overs and leg spinner Pat Boardman bowled encouragingly on his debut taking 1 for 23 off 5 overs.

At 64 for 3 the target seemed a long way away, but with the professional Khurana at the crease the game was far from over as he added 64 for the fourth wicket with skipper Lord who made 19 and then 93 for the fifth wicket with Luke Bradford who played a great supporting role with 32 not out.
