IF THIS is Glossop North End captain Nathan Valentine’s final season in English football then he wants to go out on a high by leading the Hillmen back to the Northern Premier League.

NATHAN BIDS TO END ON A HIGH

Valentine is waiting for a visa to allow him to move to the USA with fiancée Yelenia. With this lengthy process set to last at least half the season, he is keen to make the most of his remaining time in England after agreeing to stay at relegated Glossop following his January arrival.

Glossop find themselves back in the North West Counties Premier Division for the first time since 2015 following relegation from Step 4.

A miserable campaign for the then NPL West club ended with them becoming one of the final victims of the inter-step play offs, beaten 3-0 at home by northeast outfit Ashington.

He said: “This is likely going to be my last season here, so I want it to be as successful as it possibly can be. Finishing at Glossop and leaving them in a good position is something I’m going to take a lot of pride in. I was absolutely devastated when we went down, as I thought that might be my last game and I thought we were good enough to stay up. I’m hoping I can stay the full season - I’ve got at least four to five months, but it depends on how long the visa takes.”
