NATIONAL LEAGUE PROMOTION FINAL
VICTORIOUS boss Luke Williams hailed the character of keeper Sam Slocombe having hauled him off for the penalty shootout that saw Notts County promoted.
The Magpies returned to the Football League at the fourth time of asking – all three previous attempts had ended in play-off heartache – in the most dramatic fashion, twice coming back from behind to trump Chesterfield on penalties.
Williams threw his own barrel load of spice into the mix by hooking Slocombe in the last minute of extra-time, sending on Archie Mair to become the shootout hero with saves from Darren Oldaker and Jeff King understandably grabbing the plaudits.
