A Solution to the Heating and Cooling Needs of India?
-
Summer and winter can be an extreme weather challenge for people in different parts of the world. With the increase in earth’s surface temperature, due to global warming and climate change, weather conditions have been unpredictable and unbearable in many parts of the world. One of the main ways to cope with intense summer is to resort to different cooling mechanisms to bring down heat, which can sometimes reach dangerous levels. Although fans have been the popular and affordable, the Indian middle-class families in cities are increasingly buying air coolers and air conditioners, as they have gotten more affordable.
Every year people must endure rising electricity bills due to consumption of cooling appliances during summer. Similarly, during winter there is a dire need to source for heating appliances to cope with extreme weather conditions. According to NielsenIQ Report (2023), the change in India’s climate has led to rise in temperature during the summer. As heatwaves and scorching heat have become common, cooling appliances are now a necessity and not a luxury for many households. This, in turn, has led to manufacturers producing energy-efficient and improvised cooling appliances to cater to consumer needs. According to Statista Market Forecast (2025), “In the year 2025, the revenue in the heating and cooling market in India amounts to $4.09 billion.”
