Photographer JONATHAN GANLEY reflects on how his new book revisits the influential wave of post-punk bands that hit these shores 40 years ago.

Nineteen-eighty-two and 1983 were golden years for Auckland gigs by international post-punk bands. The Clash, the Fall, New Order, Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Birthday Party played shows that ranged from chaotic to outstanding. I pushed my way up the front to photograph what seemed likely to be once-in-a-lifetime events.
