Cartier’s latest Santos Chronograph balances the raw athleticism of early aviation with the refined ergonomics of a modern daily driver.

In the early 20th century, Alberto Santos-Dumont’s request to Louis Cartier was born of necessity: he needed to track time while keeping both hands on the controls of his flying machines.

Speed was his obsession—a fact immortalised by his 1906 record of covering 220 metres in just 21 seconds. While the Santos has long been celebrated as the first modern wristwatch, the new generation of the Santos de Cartier Chronograph focuses on the specific metric that defined the aviator's life: performance measured to the second.

While both collections share the DNA of the 1904 original, they cater to two distinct philosophies of watchmaking: the Santos de Cartier is the robust, modular evolution designed for contemporary life, while the Santos-Dumont remains a purist's homage to the aviator’s personal style.
