Professor Richard Scolyer 1966 — 2026

Until the very end, Professor Richard Scolyer AO was thinking about others. The esteemed pathologist and melanoma researcher left behind a final letter — for all Australians — to be shared after his death from brain cancer.

The 59-year-old passed away on June 7, after being diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma in May 2023.

In his missive, Richard said, “Thank you for your outpouring of love and support for me and my family,” and expressed thanks for “a life filled with happiness, optimism, opportunity and passion”, and pride in his cancer research work.
