Tracing the Roots of Tiatr

The roots of Tiatr delve deep into the late 19th century, where the creative endeavours of amateur dramatic groups in Goa paved the way for the inception of this unique art form. Konkani skits and plays, infused with satire and humour, offered a theatrical mirror reflecting the daily lives of Goans. However, it was in the transformative year of 1892 that Tiatr found its official debut, with Lucasinho Ribeiro staging the groundbreaking performance of "Italian Bhurgo." This marked the crystallisation of Tiatr as a distinctive theatrical form, laying the foundation for a journey that would unfold over the decades.
