'We saved thousands with this self-build'

Redesigning their kitchen for the second time, Rhian Lewis and husband Tom took a hands-on approach with a stylish, money-saving extension

For some people, completing a top-to-toe house renovation means finally saying goodbye to endless tradespeople and builders. But, for Rhian and Tom, it laid the foundations for an even more impressive makeover four years later. When the couple moved into this house - to be near Rhian's family, who live in the same street - they had visions of big family gatherings and Christmas around the dining table. However, after completing their initial renovation, the kitchen still didn't give them the large entertaining space they wanted. 'We had to admit that it was still very much lacking, despite all of the work we'd done,' says Rhian.
