Struggling to keep on top of all the extra stuff that comes with the festive season? Follow our guide, and create an organised and less cluttered home while keeping the Christmas magic alive

HAVE YOURSELF A CLUTTER-FREE CHRISTMAS

Balancing Christmas cheer with the practicalities of creating extra space for gifts, wrapping, decorations and the mammoth food shop can be a tricky task. And, while having a house full is one of the joys of the festive season, it can become a little overwhelming. The end of the year is a busy time, so keeping your home organised might be the last thing on your mind. We've asked some decluttering experts for their hacks to help you ensure your home stays full of festive charm, while minimising unnecessary clutter and creating room for the inevitable influx of visiting guests as well as additional stuff.

1 Seasonal solutions

'When guests arrive, coats and shoes can pile up! Put away non-daily items, add a basket for shoes and temporary hooks if needed. If you're short on space, an under-stairs nook or back of a door in a room that's accessible, but won't be used much, works well. A simple seasonal fix to keep hallways clear, welcoming and clutter-free!'

Sian Pelleschi, president of APDO and founder of professional organising business, Sorted!

2 All wrapped up

'A cost-effective way to keep all the elements for your Christmas wrapping station together is with a dedicated storage bag. They don't cost much, and will keep everything, including your sticky tape and scissors, in one place. It's also useful so you can see exactly what you have 'in stock' and don't end up buying duplicates! When you're not using it simply zip it up and store it under a bed or in a cupboard.'
