This is the season of shine. On festive invites and for your own hosting, the holidays provide endless opportunities to appreciate the flicker of light from shimmery surfaces.

At home, longer nights call for more illumination—a sculptural overhead fixture, a line of sconces, flames dancing in a fireplace, or pine-scented candles—to create the dimmed light and warm glow we covet. It’s expected that both fashion and home decor play along, so when that light catches sequins, beads, crystals, and metallic finishes, it refracts into an interplay of opulent magic.

This season, drape a shimmery cloth over a table that’s otherwise seasonally neutral. Pull that dazzler of a cocktail ring out of its velvet box. Hold an elegant crystal glass filled with bubbly like it’s an accessory. Not all seasons can handle sparkle quite like this one, so take advantage—and do it with style.
