SEA-ING IN BLACK AND WHITE

For most, 'a home by the sea' evokes a house coloured in coastal hues and outfitted with a certain degree of rustic charm. For Nishita Kamdar of her namesake studio, however, this meant a home that stirs to life with electrifying energy through its ongoing conversation with the view beyond. "This is our first tryst with the sea," shares the architect, whose sharp, streamlined and high-octane design decisions complement the tricky weather conditions and streams of bright light that come with a home right by the water. Nestled at the tip of Pali Hill in Mumbai, the 2,800 sq ft apartment for a family of four (a financier and a makeup artist and their two children) thrums with life as a party pad for its residents and a respite from their chaotic schedules, oozing with drama and moments of snug appeal.
