In Ahmedabad, Studio Patternmaker designs a home where art isn't placed on the walls but in fact shapes them

When a couple in Ahmedabad approached Parthavi Patel, creative head at Studio Patternmaker, they didn’t want a showpiece or a hotel-like interior. What they were looking for was a home that would feel honest, expressive, and quietly layered — a space that could evolve with them and hold the stories they'd already collected. “They didn’t want me to bring in an aesthetic. They wanted me to understand how they lived and build something around that,” says Parthavi, who approached the brief more like a collaboration than a prescription. The couple’s existing collection of tribal masks, contemporary paintings, and sculptural objects set the tone. Rather than treating these as finishing touches, Parthavi placed them at the centre of the design process, letting this 3,000 sq ft home unfold around them.
