A somewhat monolithic structure defined by its concrete-clad curves, the exterior of this contemporary home in Melbourne pays homage to both the neighbouring architecture and the rugged landscape that surrounds it. It’s the work of Australian studio Edition Office and perches on an escarpment overlooking the winding Yarra River in an area famed for its perfectly preserved modernist homes. Working alongside the architects, multidisciplinary practice Flack Studio created an interior befitting those mid-century influences. Then, when a large family returning from a stint overseas fell in love with the house, they enlisted interior decorator Simone Haag to furnish the space and evolve it into a tactile and personal home suited to them.
