Flooring is the essential first building block in all good interior design, and carpet is the perennially stylish option.

The local natural-fibre market received a boost in 1994 when David Crook established International Floorcoverings Australia - and 30 years later, it remains a key player.

David started off as a carpet layer, moving from England to Australia six years before opening his doors. "I started to import natural-fibre carpet," he says. "It was niche and new, and looked really good on the floor. Soon it was being seen in interior design magazines, and the top architects and interior designers wanted to use it in their projects."
