While it may seem surprising, an exciting and rewarding collection of physical bitcoins can be assembled with even a modest budget.

With the price of BTC eclipsing $100,000 in December 2024, the collectible physical bitcoin category is at a crossroads. Such a value milestone is a positive achievement for the category in generating more interest and attention, which will help to expand the collector base. At the same time, some existing collectors are feeling intimidated at these value levels, finding it difficult to spend six figures on a new 1 Bitcoin for their collection when they had paid $40,000 or $60,000 for similar coin types only a year earlier. There is good news, however, that collectors actually have a wide range of options for participating in this category that are much more approachable, and possibly even more fun, than these iconic but substantial 1 Bitcoin pieces.

Much like traditional rare coins, physical bitcoins were produced in a variety of denominations that each have their own following. While high-value coins such as 1 Bitcoin and larger denominations tend to generate the most attention and media coverage, it is perhaps the smaller fractional denominations that represent the heart of the collector market.
