Tell most people down the gym you're considering a triathlon and they'll immediately tell you how hard it is. Or how they had a mate who entered one, only to end up lost in a lake and eaten by a killer shark (or something). The truth of it is though, that provided you can swim, bike and run a little already, taking on a supersprint (the shortest tri distance) is easily within your grasp.

Still need it selling to you? We hear you. Training for a triathlon gives your health a regular boost of cardio across the three sports you'll train for, but not only that, you'll work a full range of muscles. Swimming relies on shoulders, lats and core strength; cycling will work your legs and cores while being low impact; and running works, well, just about everything.

These are just some of the reasons folk in their 30s and 40s head to multisport. Not only is it a new challenge, but it will make you cross-train like never before and a lot of it's low-impact, too. Add to that there are new skills you can add to the mix and it's also a good bit of brain training.
