KMCH DEDICATES FIBRO SCAN FOR RURAL HEALTHCARE

A study reveals that India contributes to a fifth of global deaths due to liver disease. One in four adults are overweight or obese and hence are at the risk of fatty liver disease. It is worth mentioning here that 70% of population are living in rural areas

During the various health camps conducted at villages by KMCH, it has come to light that people living in rural areas too suffer from lifestyle-related diseases, especially fatty liver disease. It’s attributed to the rising incidence of centripetal obesity.

In the camps conducted by KMCH, considerable size of the rural population have abnormal liver function and cirrhosis. The main cause of fatty liver is neither hepatitis nor drinking habit. It was fatty liver. This finding thus has shattered the myth that the disease is predominantly an urban phenomenon. The Fibro Scan will be used to track patients over the course of a decade to understand liver disease in our country.
