In late May I spent a week in Ribera del Duero in northern Spain tasting, alongside Almudena Alberca MW, the region's new releases for Decanter's upcoming report (part of our October 2025 issue).
Between the intense, tannin-charged blind-tasting sessions I had the time and opportunity to immerse myself in the life and landscape of the region. After a rainy winter - a welcome change after consecutive years of severe drought - the hills were etched, against the deep blue skies, in vibrant green, dotted liberally with the yellow, purple and red of rosemary and poppies.
