On 8 November 1984 the space shuttle Discovery made headlines all over the world as it took off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

As this new series on the space race reveals, the mission was unremarkable compared to others that had gone before, except that on board was Anna Fisher, who would go down in history as the 'first mother in space'.
