HIS DARK MATERIALS

SUNDAY, 7PM, BBC1 DRAMA (BOX SET, BBC iPLAYER)

Playing the emotionally charged roles of adventurous teenagers Will Parry and Lyra Belacqua in BBC1’s His Dark Materials has given Amir Wilson and Dafne Keen the most extraordinary start to their careers.

‘We’ve learnt so much from the lovely crew, and we’re so privileged to work with brilliant actors,’ says Dafne, 17, as TV Times joins her and Amir, 18, to chat about the fantasy epic’s much-anticipated return for a third and final outing.

Based on The Amber Spyglass, the last novel in Philip Pullman’s acclaimed His Dark Materials trilogy, the eight-parter will put devoted friends Will and Lyra to the test like never before as a terrible war is looming, with which both their destinies are inextricably entwined.

As the series begins, Will, who is the bearer of the powerful Subtle Knife, which can cut through any substance, must find Lord Asriel ( James McAvoy) and help the ruthless explorer in his battle against the mysterious Authority, who want to control humanity.
