Four animal families vie for supremacy in Africa

- By Caren Clark

On the hunt

In Zambia's South Luangwa National Park is a lush and fertile region called Nsefu, home to a variety of species and now the location for BBC1's ambitious natural-history series Kingdom.

Filmed over five years, the six-parter follows the intense feuds and fights for survival involving four very different but intertwined animal groups – a leopard family, a wild-dog pack, a hyena clan and a pride of lions.

'It is a land full of challenges, and these rivals compete to stake their claim on it,' says Sir David Attenborough, 99, who narrates the documentary.

'Pressure grows for anyone with a family to protect. But who will succeed in ruling this precious kingdom?'

Here, the series' producers reveal more about the heart-stopping journeys of each intrepid creature...
