A former jailbird faces setbacks as he tries to turn around his family’s fortunes in Apple TV+'s offbeat comedy Government Cheese.

The 10-part series is set in California’s San Fernando Valley in 1969 and begins as resourceful Hampton Chambers, played by Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ David Oyelowo, is in prison for theft.

After he gets out, having found religion, Hampton is eager to reunite with frustrated wife Astoria (Simone Missick) and their sons - laid-back brainbox Einstein (Evan Ellison) and rebellious Harrison (Jahi Di'Allo Winston) - but they have a mixed reaction to his return.
