Ed Stafford takes part in rites-of-passage rituals around the world

As a 50-year-old father of four, Ed Stafford might seem a little long in the tooth to be taking part in ceremonies that signify the transition from boy to man.

But in a new six-part series, the explorer sets out to undergo the gruelling rites of passage practised by various indigenous people around the world.

'If I'm honest, I've never really grown up,' says Stafford, whose previous TV exploits include being the first person to walk the length of the Amazon river, and surviving 60 days on an uninhabited island with no food or equipment.
